Chonkers - Sofa Bed - Sage Green

The foam core carries a 10-year warranty, and CosyLabs has honoured over 100 warranty claims under it so far.

Durability in a sofa bed comes down to the foam rather than the frame, because a frame-based design concentrates wear at the fold. The Chonkers sofa bed uses 32 density high-resilience (HR) foam throughout and has no fold to wear out.

The Chonkers sofa bed uses 32 density high-resilience (HR) foam, and only that. Density is what decides how many years foam holds its shape before it softens and sags, which is why CosyLabs publishes the figure — most sofa beds state no density at all.

What is deliberately not in it:

No EPE foam. Expanded polyethylene is a packaging material. It is cheap, it is used as filler in some low-cost furniture, and it flattens permanently under repeated sitting.

No commodity low-density PU foam. HR foam is itself a polyurethane foam, but a high-resilience grade: it pushes back and recovers its shape. The ordinary low-density PU used in budget sofa beds does neither for long, and a sofa bed is compressed far harder than a sofa because the same foam has to work as a mattress.

No memory foam. Memory foam is viscoelastic — it softens with body heat and sinks slowly rather than supporting you. That suits a mattress you lie still on. It is poor to sit upright on for hours, which is what a sofa is for.

Regularly. There is no folding frame inside it, so there is no bar or hinge under the sleeping surface. The same high-resilience (HR) foam core supports you as a sofa and as a bed, so neither mode is the compromise.

Yes. The Chonkers sofa bed is a floor sofa that opens flat into a bed, so it does the work of a sofa and a spare bed in one product, which is usually the problem in a 1BHK. It has no legs and no rigid frame, so one person can move or reposition it without tools.

A wooden or metal sofa bed folds around a mechanism, and that mechanism is what you feel through a thin mattress — which is why many of them are an decent sofa but a poor bed. The Chonkers has no folding mechanism, so comfort does not change between the two modes. It is also lighter and easier to move. It comes with an anti-skid base that also keeps it fixed to the ground.

It sits at floor level with no legs, hard frame or sharp corners, so there is little to fall from or knock against, which is why it is often bought as a second sofa for a family room, a reading corner, or a child's own room that doubles as a bed for sleepovers. The covers are removable and machine washable.
